Gnosis Pay

In September 2026 Gnosis Pay said it would stop running consumer products and become a B2B platform and card-programme manager for wallets, fintechs and neobanks. Its explanation was that it could not keep up consumer apps to the standard it wanted while building the business platform. Formal notice went to cardholders on 21 September.

Some things stay. Your Safe on Gnosis Chain, your GNO and any OG NFT remain in your wallet. A euro IBAN keeps working, because Monerium provides it and it is tied to the wallet rather than the card. Partner apps take over the card: Rebind for euro cards, Picnic for dollar cards in Brazil, and MiniPay for dollar cards elsewhere. For sterling cardholders, Gnosis Pay said it was still working on an option.

The design removes one risk and adds another. Your money sits in a Safe smart account that you control, not in a balance held by a card company. At settlement the card programme pulls funds from the Safe through on-chain modules. If Gnosis Pay failed as a company, no issuer float would be stuck. The modules themselves are code, however, and code can fail.

It did on 1 June 2026. A flaw in how the Zodiac modules checked ERC-1271 contract signatures meant a malicious contract could fail on purpose and still return the 'valid' code. Attackers took about $1.5 million, and another ~$300,000 was temporarily inaccessible, across 5,281 wallets holding at least $1. Monitoring flagged the attack at 06:17 UTC, the team found the cause by 08:06, and card services went offline. According to the post-mortem, Gnosis absorbed the loss and restored balances, most by 6 June and the rest the following week.

The second incident involved identity data. In July 2024 Fractal ID, Gnosis Pay's KYC provider, had an operator account breached, exposing names, addresses, selfies and ID documents for about 5,000 of its users, some of them Gnosis Pay customers. Self-custody of funds does nothing to protect the passport scan a card programme requires.

Gnosis Pay launched in July 2023. It is a Visa debit card that spends stablecoins, mainly euro EURe and sterling GBPe, straight from a self-custodial Safe on Gnosis Chain. Gnosis Pay Co Ltd, a UK company (No. 14919639), runs it, and Monavate Limited, an FCA-authorised e-money institution, issues the card. It comes from the Gnosis ecosystem, which also created Safe and Gnosis Chain.

It also paid cashback, in GNO, on card spending until 30 September 2026. GNO is the token of GnosisDAO and Gnosis Chain, not of Gnosis Pay the company, so we do not treat it as Gnosis Pay's token.
