High headline rewards, priced through the Level Up membership. In the US the free Basic tier pays 1.5% back on the first $250 a month and 1% after; Plus costs $4.99 a month or $500 of CRO staked for 12 months and pays 3.5% on the first $500. Pro and Private go up to 6%. The CRO route is an unhedged position in a token whose supply rules Crypto.com has shown it can change.
Best for: Cashback, if you price the Level Up tier you need
7.1 is the weighted average of the five pillar findings below. Dependable, with trade-offs a reader should know about first.
Custodial: the balance is a claim on a private company. The Jan 2022 2FA bypass took $33.8M from 483 accounts; Crypto.com says all were reimbursed, with no independent confirmation.
US tiers are priced openly: Basic free, Plus $4.99 a month or $500 of CRO staked for 12 months, with cashback capped by monthly spend. The CRO route ties money up in a volatile token, and the 2025 reissue of 70 billion burned CRO shows its rules can change.
EU MiCA licence (Jan 2025), US CFTC derivatives licences (Sep 2025) and conditional OCC approval for a national trust bank (Feb 2026), which does not yet protect US retail balances.
Reliable card operation with wide acceptance and few settlement complaints.
Broad availability, straightforward onboarding and a capable app; the free Basic tier needs no stake or subscription.
Strengths
Against it
Crypto.com prices its card through Level Up. In the US the free Basic tier pays one and a half per cent back in CRO or BTC on the first $250 of monthly spending and 1% after; Plus costs $4.99 a month, $49.90 a year, or $500 of CRO staked for 12 months, and pays three and a half per cent on the first $500. Pro and Private reach 6%. The old programme needed a CRO stake and nothing else; the subscription route is new, and it removes the hidden-cost problem we used to penalise.
Two cautions remain. The cashback caps mean the headline rate applies only to part of your spending. And the CRO route is an unhedged position in a token whose rules Crypto.com has shown it can change, as when 70 billion burned CRO were reissued in 2025.
Not in the US any more. Basic needs neither a stake nor a subscription; Plus costs $4.99 a month or $500 of CRO staked for 12 months.
Compare the tier cost with the capped cashback. Plus pays three and a half per cent only on the first $500 a month, so at most about $17.50 back against a $4.99 fee. Check the FX markup against your bank card before switching.
Staking it for a tier is a 12-month position in a volatile token, and in March 2025 a Cronos vote reissued the 70 billion CRO burned in 2021. Tiers priced in CRO depend on rules the company can influence.
