blur nft

Blur is an Ethereum NFT marketplace and aggregator built for traders. It launched in October 2022, charges no marketplace fee, pulls in listings from other marketplaces, and is known for collection-wide bidding, fast sweeps and Blend, a peer-to-peer NFT lending protocol. Its BLUR token, 3 billion supply, governs fees and treasury grants through the Blur Foundation.

Our read

Blur is the tool for people who flip Ethereum NFTs by the floor: zero marketplace fee, bid pools and Blend loans make it cheap and fast for that. It is a poor fit for collectors who want creators paid, since royalties are mostly optional, and for anyone outside Ethereum. The thing to watch is that its token-farming boom has faded; its share of marketplace volume fell through 2024, and fee-free trading only lasts while governance keeps it that way.

How the Blur NFT marketplace works

Blur went live in October 2022 as a trading screen for Ethereum NFTs. It shows its own listings alongside those from other marketplaces, so one sweep can buy across venues, and it refreshes floor prices and sales in real time. It supports Ethereum mainnet only.

FeatureWhat it does
AggregationBuys listings from other marketplaces in the same transaction
Collection bidsBid on any item in a collection, or on traits
Bid poolPre-funded ETH pool that backs your bids
Batch listing and sweepingList or buy many items at once
BlendPeer-to-peer loans against NFTs

The fee model is the point. Blur charges 0% as a marketplace, and on most collections the royalty is a minimum of 0.5% rather than the creator's full rate. BLUR holders can vote a marketplace fee of up to 2.5%, so zero is a governance choice, not a contract guarantee.

Low royalties move income from creators to traders. That is a design choice, and it is why creators are Blur's loudest critics.

The Blur airdrop and BLUR token

BLUR launched on 14 February 2023. The first claim, 12% of supply or 360 million BLUR, went to anyone who traded NFTs on any marketplace between 19 October 2022 and 14 February 2023, to earlier Blur users holding Care Packages, and to creators.

Governance runs in three steps: a 7-day forum discussion, a 14-day Snapshot vote needing 30 million BLUR in favour, and a 14-day on-chain vote on Tally needing 120 million BLUR, followed by a 2-day delay. For price and supply data see the BLUR market page.

Blur Blend: NFT lending

Blend, launched in May 2023 and designed with Paradigm, is a peer-to-peer lending protocol for NFTs. Loans have no fixed end date. A lender can exit at any time by starting a refinancing auction; if no other lender takes the loan over at an acceptable rate before the auction ends, the borrower must repay or the NFT goes to the lender.

That makes Blend cheap while lenders are plentiful and harsh when they leave: in a falling market a borrower can face a call with a short deadline. The lending contract is published by the Blur Foundation at 0x2946…a20b, and its audit is linked from the foundation's docs.

Blur NFT marketplace news: volume and market share

CoinGecko data shows Blur at 35.4% of marketplace volume in January 2024 and 25.4% by August 2024, with monthly volume down from about $500 million to about $85 million, behind Magic Eden.

By late 2025 OpenSea's airdrop campaign had pulled activity back; it reported about two-thirds of Ethereum NFT volume in October 2025. Blur still charges nothing and still aggregates other venues, so a trader loses little by using it, but it is no longer where most Ethereum NFTs change hands.
