rarible
Rarible is an NFT marketplace and developer protocol founded in 2019 that lets creators mint collections into contracts they own and lets other apps plug into its order book through the Rarible API. Its RARI token, launched in July 2020, governs the RARI DAO and foundation treasury. In 2026 Impossible Finance acquired the Rarible brand and marketplace, and a DAO vote on 31 July 2026 sent it back to Solana.
Our read
Rarible still does the thing creators came for: deploy a collection without code into a contract you own, with royalties set by you. It is a small venue now, the company has changed hands, and its token governs a treasury more than a product. Use it for minting and custom storefronts; for liquidity, list the same items where buyers are.

What the Rarible NFT marketplace is
Rarible has three layers. The marketplace at rarible.com is where people mint, list and buy. The Rarible Protocol is the open-source exchange contract and order book underneath it. The Rarible API lets other apps read that market data, build custom storefronts, or embed buying and selling, and it aggregates listings from other marketplaces.
For creators the point is contract ownership: a collection made with Rarible's tools is deployed as the creator's own contract rather than a slot in a shared one, and the creator sets royalties in it. Moving that collection to another marketplace later does not require a re-mint.
The marketplace trades on Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum and Polygon, and the multisig transfer proposal in September 2026 names 25 networks where its protocol contracts are deployed, including MegaETH, HyperEVM and RARI Chain. Solana, supported in 2022 through Metaplex Auction House and later dropped, is being added again.
Rarible news: new owner, RARI DAO and the Solana return
Rarible was one of the first NFT platforms with a governance token: RARI launched in July 2020, and the RARI DAO, administered by the RARI Foundation, controls a treasury and grant programmes such as the $100,000 Creator Fund launched in September 2025. The company behind the marketplace is a separate matter.
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| May 2025 | Bitget delists RARI, citing low activity and liquidity |
| Mar 2026 | Tally, the DAO's voting platform, announces it is shutting down |
| Jun 2026 | RARI governance cleanup proposal: canonical governance, delegate renewal |
| 31 Jul 2026 | DAO vote approves a Solana marketplace; four-week build and audits |
| 2026 | Impossible Finance acquires Rarible and takes over its infrastructure |
| 14 Sep 2026 | Proposal to move admin keys on 25 networks from ex-CTO to Impossible Finance |
The September 2026 proposal is worth reading if you hold anything on Rarible contracts. It says admin access to the protocol on 25 networks, via multisigs and on some chains single-key accounts, still sat with Rarible's former CTO after the sale, which it calls both a bottleneck and "a security risk." The proposal hands that control to Impossible Finance's engineers.
RARI now governs the foundation and its treasury rather than day-to-day marketplace decisions. Price and supply are on the RARI market page.
Rarible fees
The Rarible Protocol exchange contract splits costs into three parts: a protocol fee paid by both buyer and seller, optional origin fees that any front end can add as its commission, and creator royalties. Rarible's own worked example uses a 1% protocol fee on each side.
| On a 100 ETH sale in the docs example | Amount |
|---|---|
| Buyer pays | 102 ETH (price + 1% protocol + 1% buyer origin fee) |
| Creator royalty (10%) | 10 ETH |
| Seller's agent origin fee (2%) | 2 ETH |
| Protocol | 2 ETH |
| Seller receives | 87 ETH |
Deploying your own collection adds gas for the contract and each mint, which is why the full cost of a launch is hard to total in advance. On Base, Arbitrum or Polygon that gas is a small fraction of what Ethereum mainnet costs.
