SideShift.ai

SideShift.ai converts one coin into another without an account. You choose the pair, give a receiving address, and SideShift shows a deposit address. Once your deposit confirms, it sends the other coin to your wallet. The company calls each order a shift; a June 2026 press release put the median settlement time at 44 seconds and lifetime volume at more than $3 billion.

It was started in 2019 by Andreas Brekken, who earlier founded the Norwegian exchange Justcoin and worked at Kraken. The public terms name Paradigm Ltd as the operator, but they give no registration number or country of incorporation, which is typical for this category.

Coverage is mid-sized. The API docs list 42 blockchains and 200+ coins, while the 2026 press release says 300+ assets. That is narrower than the aggregators that route to dozens of partners, because SideShift quotes from its own liquidity. Many people use it without visiting the site: the 2026 release names Trezor, Bitcoin.com and Edge Wallet among the wallets that embed SideShift swaps.

XAI is the house token. Until 3 June 2026 holders could stake it for a share of revenue; that programme has ended. Its remaining job is paying commissions: referrers and API integrators earn a default 0.5% of shift value (adjustable from 0% to 2%), paid in XAI that SideShift buys on the open market. Yes, in the sense that matters most: it has run since 2019 and we found no hack, insolvency or unrepaid loss on record. It is a real swap service with a named founder and a published token white paper, not a clone site.

Two caveats. First, most searches for "is sideshift legit" are about a different company, the Sideshift gig and UGC creator app, which has no connection to SideShift.ai. Check that you are on sideshift.ai (or sideshift.us in the US) before sending anything. Second, legit does not mean regulated. Outside the US product, the service runs under an offshore operating company whose jurisdiction the terms do not state.

Your funds are in SideShift's hands for the time between your deposit and its payout. The risk in that window is not theft by the operator but a compliance hold: the terms reserve the right to freeze a shift for as long as a risk investigation takes.

SideShift does not show a separate service-fee line. Its own docs say fees are included in the quoted rate and are dynamic, depending on liquidity and market conditions; network fees for sending you the output coin are shown separately on variable-rate orders.

Because the margin sits inside the rate, the honest comparison is the amount you will receive against the mid-market price at that moment. Fixed rates protect you from price moves during slow confirmations; they fail if you send a different amount than quoted, and the refund costs you a network fee.

Integrators can add up to 2% commission on top, and wallets that embed SideShift show the same quote as sideshift.ai itself, so a wallet swap button is not automatically more expensive.

Not for a normal shift. There is no sign-up, and swaps that pass automated screening never ask for ID. SideShift checks every deposit and receiving address with third-party blockchain analytics. If either is linked to illicit activity, the shift is paused for a human review.

The practical advice: don't route coins fresh from a mixer, a sanctioned address or a hacked protocol through SideShift and expect an anonymous refund.
